Inspired Again!!

You know, I’ve been researching the Edutech space in Sydney for the last four months and as a trainer, its been scaring  the hell out of me. Totally disruptive, it threatens the way all trainers do their business.

Last night, I went to an event to hear Riley Batchelor, the CEO of EDUGROWTH, a edu-tech business talk about the future of education.

We were in a room full of entrepreneurs, Riley sat on a stool and started a conversation that the room soon took over and a rich discussion quickly took over from any semblance of a structured talk.

This appears to me to be the future of education.

The learners, teach themselves.

Lecturers become the learner, exploring the subject through the learner’s eyes.

I don’t know why, but this morning I’m absolutely inspired.  I leaped out of bed at 4.30 am, did my yoga and got to work…

I wrote this post about the event, created an exciting and productive to-do list for today and am encouraged to move forward in all of my projects.

…so what inspires you?

My wife Rose, when she heard I was in a room full of entrepreneurs last night said to me: “Well, you would have been right at home!”

She was right.  (She knows me soooo well!)

I do feel comfortable with the disrupters, the creators and the outliers.  These are one of my favorite tribes I get to be with.

So, what is your favorite tribe?  Who lights you up and inspires you?

That would be a good question for you to answer.

Here’s me and Riley after him speaking to his tribe:

Regular Reflection Keeps You Refreshed!

You know, a coach was telling me about a meeting he had with someone who was uncoachable.

The person wasn’t doing so well with their business and was carrying high debt.

They wanted to be coached…but they still wanted to do things in their business “Their way”.

On further questioning, the coach discovered the person had never done any reflection on their performance or taken responsibility for the way things went in their business.

As far as they were concerned, everything that didn’t go the way they wanted, was someone else’s fault…circumstances or just plain bad luck.  They spent a lot of time blaming.

It hit me hard hearing that.

When you don’t take responsibility, when you are blaming everyone else, when you give your power away to circumstances – you are probably not reflecting.  You are probably not asking yourself the hard questions.  You are probably stuck in ego!

Reflection is like cleaning your teeth.

If you clean your teeth morning and night, your mouth is fresh, your gums healthy and everything works well.

If you don’t clean your teeth for a week, your breath starts to smell and your gums start to swell.

…if you don’t clean your teeth for a month, you start experiencing pain when you eat and your gums are suffering.

…if you keep going like this, your teeth will fall out, your body will be constantly fighting infections and your quality of life descends to a new low.

That’s why I like to reflect regularly.

I don’t want to be the slave of my ego – ignoring reality in the service of propping up my ego.

So, make it your new habit.

Reflect on your daily activities – what did I do well…and what needs to improve?

Reflect upon your goals – what will be the pleasurable end results?  What do you need to focus on?  What actions do you need to take?

Reflect upon the year you’ve just lived…and on the year you intend to live in the next 12 months.

…it’s just like cleaning your teeth!

Digital Disruption @ mid-2017

It’s here, it’s picking up pace and leaving the past behind in it’s wakeIt's already happened..

Bricks and mortar retail is slowly dying, Uber is growing, AirB&B is being embraced…

Everyone’s way of making a living is under threat…

…and yet there are still people saying that things won’t change…

…but our accepted ways of doing things are being shaken to the core.

Here’s the results from a Price Waterhouse survey.

and here’s how even buying a Harley has AI in the background, calling the shots.

…and if you think phishing and spear phishing is what you do on beach holidays, then check out what Cyber Criminals can do…and what you can do to protect yourself.

There’s no Machine University (yet), but here’s how machine learning helps companies sell you more…and more often.

Better educate yourself now, so you can understand what’s going on and make some changes yourself.

You see, the winners of today…are the failures of yesterday.  Check out Jack Ma, founder of Alibaba:

You know, you really need to get your head around this.

It’s So Easy to Lose Your Mojo…

…especially when you are doing your BEST work!

There’s something about your Best Work that Picture1is inherently out of your control.

What I’m talking about is when you hit the genius level… (as Elizabeth Gilbert so eloquently describes in her TED talk – worth watching! – Skip the Ad at the front end)

You know, that rarified atmosphere where your work lifts way beyond what you have ever achieved before, where your results and outputs lift and keep lifting…

You end up with the thoughts: “Did I really do that?  How did I do that??….how could I do that?”

The truth is, most brilliant and creative people report that when they do their best work…it’s like they are not even doing anything – some even report that they are looking down on themselves doing what they are doing…so it appears, that this state of high performance, involves some levelling of your ego – because your ego knows it couldn’t possibly do what you have just done.

You can see why some artists are so humble…and why some others are such horror shows to work with.

Their Mojo is what get’s the job done…not their ego.

And so it is with you.

When you hit the heights you’ve never hit before…that’s when you know you have a mojo.

When you try to do it again…that’s when you realise your mojo has a mind of it’s own.

Maybe it is just like what Elizabeth Gilbert and Tom Waits say: “When your mojo is on – it’s on…when it’s off…it’s off.”

Maybe it’s like what they say in the bible about the path getting narrower and narrower the further you progress upon it.

Maybe if you can align your purpose with what the mojo wants to manifest, then you have half a chance of it descending once again to lift your game way beyond your expectations…

Let me know what you think…
