Claudia Batten – Kiwi Hero!

Claudia Batten is a nice Kiwi girl, whose role is the New Zealand Trade & Enterprise Regional Director for North America, supporting New Zealand businesses as they grow internationallyClaudia-Batten into the market.

She oversees key relationships across the US, Canada and Mexico, and is responsible for operations in New York, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC, Vancouver and Mexico City.

Claudia has spent over 15 years in the technology sector and was part of the founding team of Massive, a first of its kind network for advertising in video games which was sold to Microsoft in 2006.

In 2009, she co-founded Victors & Spoils, the first advertising agency built on the principles of crowdsourcing. French company Havas bought a majority interest in the agency in 2012. In 2014 Claudia co-founded Broadli to redefine how we use digital connectivity to power networking.

She has this amazing concept called “Squiggles” and I really like this quote of hers describing what I call the Iterative Process”:

“A series of mistakes that helps us figure out how to make it all work”

…and another quote from one of her professors that describes the process of scaling up, where he says: “Its just like when you are drunk, you are at your front door and you try to put your key in the door…and you miss…”

“It’s the constant re-calibration to make the key fit into the keyhole”

I’m moving back to New Zealand soon, looking to support people who will be creating the employment opportunities of the future.

Maori Tech Sector Success Story

Here’s a man who comes up through his culture, the armed forces and a return to NZ, not knowing what to do…and comes up with an amazing innovation that he drives with relentless focus building his dream with his eyes wide open.

You have to respect someone who mentored so many people and inspired so many Mark Colvinothers…to excellence.

So many said to his credit, that he gave freely, that they felt they were special when they were around him.

Thanks to all those mentors, who give their gift of love, allowing us to stand on their shoulders, to learn from their lessons learned long ago, honed and crafted with a masters touch.

Thanks Mark – you did us proud.

“My Coach Hasn’t Taught Me Anything About Success – I Had To Learn It All By Myself!”

Now, you might hear this like a valid complaint.

 …and you’d be right, if the coach’s job was to teach their clients something.
…but that’s not the case.
You see, a coach’s job is to support you to learn what you need…by yourself.
A coach believes you have all your answers within you…their job is merely to unlock.
Your job, your responsibility, is to bring your learning forth.
If a coach teaches you something, the coach is a teacher, not a coach…
…they are telling, not listening…giving you an answer of theirs,
…not patiently waiting for you to discover yours.
It’s a subtle distinction, one that feels uncomfortable with those whose education has been spoon fed,
…but totally comfortable with those who regularly set out…knowing nothing about how to do something…confident that they will learn along the way.

“If you give a person a fish, you feed them for one day.

If you show them how to fish, you feed them for a lifetime.”

If you give someone answers, you’ll give them an answer.
If you help someone to find their own answer, you show them that part of themselves, that creates higher quality answers and solutions for anything they come up against in their lives.
…that’s what a coach is supposed to do.
